“‘ere Kief, come an’ look at these paintings!”

Liverpool is to stage its very first exhibition of artworks by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.

Away from the stage and recording studio, the 61 year-old rock star has become an established and prolific artist.

The exhibition – at the Liverpool Academy of Arts in Seel Street – coincides with the city’s annual Beatles Week and Mathew Street Festival, when tens of thousands of music-lovers will descend on Liverpool.  Fans of The Fab Four will want to see the work of one of The Beatles’ rock rivals:

Ronnie Wood first exhibited his work publicly in San Francisco in the 1980s and has since held exhibitions all over the world, often tied in with the Stones’ hectic tour schedules.

Born into an art-loving family, Ronnie Wood followed his brothers into art school, attending Ealing Art College. His very first job was as a sign-writer.

Working with paint, screen-printing, woodcuts and etching methods, Wood has created a wide variety of artworks, from bold, abstract pieces to intimate portraits of fellow band members and other showbiz pals.

Tour sketches and landscapes also form a large part of the artist’s portfolio. The Liverpool exhibition will feature original works and prints.

WHERE: Liverpool Academy of Arts, 32 Seel Street, Liverpool L1 4BE

WHEN: Tuesday, 19th August – Friday 29th August  (opening hours 11.00h-17.00h)

RS Thomas Triptych by T Duffy

Do something different with your lunch hour. On Wednesday 21 May, Chamber Council member and renowned local artist, Terry Duffy will be giving free talks in the Walker Art Gallery at 1pm and 3pm about his exhibition ‘Standing Stones’.

Terry explains: “The title ‘Standing Stones’ is a metaphor for humanity. It expresses my long-term fascination with humankind’s legacy and the decisions made for good or evil by individuals, groups, societies and cultures.”

‘Standing Stones’ will features a very new and fascinating diptych ‘Somewhere between life and death we make decisions 2008’. This diptych further demonstrates Duffy’s fascination in experimenting in oils on sheer ‘hot pressed board’ which he rips away creating dynamic shapes that suggest the human form whilst retaining ambiguity.

‘Standing Stones’ will be the first of a series of exhibitions by Terry Duffy to be held at various venues in Liverpool during its year as European Capital of Culture.

‘Standing Stones’, by Liverpool-born international artist Terry Duffy, runs at the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool from 26 April to 8 June 2008.
