gramophone The Performing Rights Society (PRS) are launching a consultation on their code of practice.

The British Chambers of Commerce are going to use our response to communicate to the PRS the bad experiences of many of our members and to lobby for a change in their working methods.

Given the interest of the Network in the PRS and their tactics, below is a link to a very short survey (4 questions) which it would be useful if our members could fill in. The survey will close on April 17th.

cop British Chambers of Commerce have been at the forefront of lobbying the Government on business crime. We base this work on the information we receive from you, our members.  Research by British Chambers showed that business crime was costing UK businesses £12.6 billion a year – a cost they can ill afford in the current economic climate.

We are now undertaking another business crime survey with Chambers of Commerce North West.  Your views are important, even if your business has not recently been a victim of crime.

survey_results The British Chambers of Commerce have asked us to help publicise a survey they are holding:

We are working with the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) and they are currently conducting a consultation on how businesses assess the performance of their workforce and monitor their competitiveness as a business. It is particularly interested to identify how employers use ‘competencies’ or the behaviours that employees must have or acquire to achieve high levels of performance within a given occupation.

We have agreed to issue a short on-line consultation questionnaire via our web site and I wondered if I could ask you to forward this to those of your members who you think might be interested in participating

survey_resultsIn these turbulent economic times, the Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) is even more important than usual.

Not only are the results of the survey considered by the Bank of England in setting interests rates, but they are also used locally by agencies developing business support packages.

We have sent out paper copies to our members across Greater Merseyside. However, we want to hear from all businesses, members or not.

You can fill in the QES online by visiting the Mersey Economy website and following the QES link on the home page. Or you can return your printed survey by fax to 0151 236 0121or post to:

By 'eck, it's grim up north!
By ‘eck, it’s grim up north!

*According to our online survey

Following on from the outrage generated by the Policy Exchange think tank’s suggestion that the North was beyond saving and we should all move to Cambridge, we asked for your opinions in our quick poll on our main website.

We asked ‘Has regeneration failed in the North?’ Over two weeks 646 of you voted and an overwhelming 91.95% agreed. So perhaps the policy think tank wasn’t so wrong after all! Now, this was only a simple yes / no question about a much more complex subject. But is this really representative of our visitors’ views?

Let us know what you think by leaving a comment here.

This week we are asking – following the successful Mathew Street Festival, should the local authority fund public entertainment or should the city’s business community do more to financially support the festival? Visit the Chamber’s main home page to cast your vote, or share your ideas on this blog.

The credit crunch. Everybody’s talking about it, but how is it really effecting you?

Liverpool Chamber want to know if and how the economic downturn is affecting your business so that we can assess how we may be able to help you.

We have teamed up with Liverpool-based fund manager, Alliance Fund Managers to help us devise a survey around this topic.  AFM manage the MSIF Group of Funds and can provide loans and equity packages from £3k to £4m to new and growing businesses throughout the region.

The funds managed by AFM are not affected by the credit crunch and may be able to help you with a variety of funding requirements including: start up, expansion, MBOs/MBIs, mergers, acquisitions and turnaround.

Our survey will only take a minute to complete and will help us build a better picture of how businesses in the region are feeling the effects of the economic downturn.

Liverpool Chamber and Benylin would like to better understand the perception and levels of sickness related absence in the workplace.

We hope this survey will provide a unique insight and an in depth understanding into how businesses measure, monitor and control sickness related absence and what impact presenteeism (being present at work when ill and performing below par) and absenteeism (taking a day or two off work to get better) may have on colleagues and levels of productivity.

The survey should take approximately 5 minutes to complete.  At the end of the survey, all participants will be included into a prize draw for an i-pod nano.

Thank you for your time.
