Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the UK’s economy. While experts in their fields, SMEs can struggle to meet the business management challenges posed by rapid change, ever increasing competition and shifting financial markets. Too often, good businesses fail.

When an organisation needs to improve its performance the Business Turnaround Specialist can make the crucial difference. With an ability to swiftly gather information, focus on key issues and generate workable solutions, the Business Turnaround Specialist will facilitate the turnaround of a business. Entering a company with a fresh perspective and complete objectivity, they will guide a company through the necessary steps for its survival and prosperity.

Postgraduate Certificate in Business Turnaround Management

This pioneering programme, the only one of its kind in the UK, is designed to develop the unique skills of the business turnaround specialist. Jointly delivered by practitioners from Blenheim Associates and academics from LJMU it combines the practical and the theoretical to offer an exceptional learning experience leading to accredited evidence
of expertise in Business Turnaround Management.

The course is structured around the life cycle of a ‘turnaround’ and comprises the following modules:

  • Diagnostic: how to determine whether or not the ultimate value
    of the company is likely to exceed the investment (in time and resources)
    needed to ensure its survival.
  • Crisis management: taking action to stabilise the organisation,
    deal with poor employee morale, increase profit margins and reduce
    overhead costs.
  • Stabilisation: restoring stability and addressing longer-term issues
    such as development opportunities, new markets, staffing and other issues.
  • The future: ensuring that there is a team and a strategy in place
    to offer long-term viability.

Wendy Shaw
JMU_wendy_shaw Wendy is a Partner in Blenheim Associates, a Business Turnaround consultancy firm, delivering turnaround strategies to owner managed businesses on a daily basis.

She has over 15 years experience in the SME Business Turnaround and Insolvency industry, working at both Senior Management and Director level. Her experience also extends to the area of personal insolvency and for two years she was National Manager within the largest independent insolvency practitioners in the UK.

Training in Accountancy, Management and Sales has provided a broad based background with which to tackle the day to day problems faced by businesses in distress. Her passion and skill for providing assistance to the SME market has developed a reputation trusted by major financial institutions and crown departments.

Lindsey Muir
JMU_Lindsey_Muir Lindsey is a Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management at LJMU’s Liverpool Business School. She has almost 20 years experience of developing and leading Strategic Management modules at both undergraduate and post graduate level. Lindsey has also worked with a variety of external
organisations from all sectors in delivering strategic solutions.

Her research interests focus on strategy and marketing within professional service firms with a particular focus on legal services.

Barry Barnes
JMU_Barry_Barnes Barry is Principal Lecturer at LJMU’s Liverpool Business School. He has 11 years experience of lecturing at post graduate and undergraduate level on a range of modules including Operations Management,Project Management, Change Management, Systems Thinking and Strategy.

He also has over 20 years experience in industry, initially in line management and latterly working on ePOS systems development, supply chain, project and change Management.

Nagesh Bhayani
JMU_Nagesh_Bhayani Nagesh is a Partner in Blenheim Associates, a Business Turnaround consultancy firm delivering turnaround strategies to owner managed businesses on a daily basis. He is also Principal in a professional firm providing finance direction to innovative enterprises. He is a Non-Executive Director and a Chair of the Audit Committee for a large NHS Trust.

Nagesh has 16 years experience in operational and strategic finance director roles in practice, engineering, manufacturing, distribution and fashion retail. He has extensive experience of business
turnaround and alternative dispute resolution.
