Sir Terry Leahy To Speak At Chamber’s Business Convention January 8, 2008

Sir Terry LeahyLiverpool-born entrepreneur, Sir Terry Leahy, Chief Executive of Tesco PLC is announced as keynote speaker at the Business Convention, opening at Liverpool’s newly built BT Convention Centre on 28th April.

Sir Terry is referred to as one of the most powerful people in Britain. He has been instrumental in transforming Tesco in less than a decade into the world’s third largest supermarket chain and UK market leader.

Sir Terry is joined by business troubleshooter, Lord Digby Jones, Minister of State for Trade and Investment with DBERR. Lord Jones served as Director-General of the CBI, for six years. During his appointment he took the British business message to 70 different countries. He met on a regular basis with political, business and media figures in the UK and around the world.

The annual Business Convention, hosted by the British Chambers of Commerce, is coming to Liverpool for the first time ever. Liverpool Chamber Chief Executive Jack Stopforth said: “One of our contributions to 2008 is bringing this national conference out of London for the first time in many years to showcase the city to a high profile business audience.

“The theme of the convention ‘from local creativity to global competitiveness’ is based upon Liverpool’s regeneration including the award of the European Capital of Culture 2008. Liverpool Chamber is honoured that Liverpool has been selected to host the convention and we aim to fill the hall, all 800 seats.”

As well as the main event, there will be pre-conference networking at the Tate Gallery Liverpool, a major business exhibition in the convention centre, break out sessions, masterclasses and a conference dinner at The Crowne Plaza, where Lord Digby Jones will be the guest of honour.

Sponsors Royal Bank of Scotland, BT and NWDA are already in place. In addition to BT’s announcement of a five year sponsorship deal of the Convention Centre, BT Chairman, Sir Michael Rake has been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers at this event.
