Posted by liverpoolchamber in awards, Business, Environment.

The Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) Environmental Leadership Awards is making it’s final call for competition entries.

With less than two weeks to go until the competition closes, companies are urged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to demonstrate that corporate responsibility is an integral part of their organisation, that they are innovative and ahead of the competition.

David Miliband, who presented the 2007 Awards, noted that: “The mismatch between how we use natural resources and the steps we are taking to mitigate climate change is widening. The businesses that have won awards today are examples that I will use to persuade others in the UK and internationally that addressing climate change does not damage competitiveness”

Its is free to enter and attend the Awards ceremony for any business eligible to pay corporation tax in the UK. Applicants are required to complete a simple application form which is available on the website before being assessed for the next stage where those selected will be visited by one of the BCE technical panel.

Those who enter can be sure that they are in good company. This years top award winner was the Co-operative Group whose integrated approach to sustainability truly demonstrates that helping the environment doesn’t stop at just the businesses resource consumption.

To apply for the 2008 Awards visit the BCE website today to download an application form and apply via email. The closing date for applications is Friday 19th October 2007

May we introduce all environmentally aware companies to Combined Harvesters, the north west’s leading rainwater harvesting specialists.

Manufacturers of the RainCatcher 700 litre compact rain storage tank as launched at Glee, the international trade show Sept 07 in parntership with Karcher UK, fully approved on wate technologies list, specificaitons as below-

Rain Catcher – Economic above ground rainwater storage solution

The rain catcher system has been developed based upon market research into the rainwater harvesting industry and a culmination of some 25 years experience in the landscape construction business. After setting up a web site and placing various adverts into the major gardening periodicals over a period of 12 months, it became apparent that a large capacity, unobtrusive rainwater storage tank with generic features was the main request of potential purchasers.

The Rain catcher is approved on the water technologies list, meaning that professional bodies specifying for a low carbon footprint home, office , school etc can include the system and gain not only valuable eco rating points, but a 100 % capital allowance rebate for commercial installations.

Features of the Raincatcher system.

• Slim line 500mm x 1500mm x 1000 mm dimensions allowing the unit to fit neatly under a low window or easily to the gable end of a property. 7mm HDPE UV stable construction.
• Large aperture 340mm lid allowing easy cleaning and constituent part fitting.
• Lockable lid, securing the pump from potential theft in external applications.
• Two inlet and outlet spigots with an internal diameter of 32mm for standard domestic waste pipe and an external diameter of 65 mm for standard downspouts, negating the need for filters and diverters if not required.
• Two perimeter indents to add strength and allow the fixing of a securing strap to a wall, increasing stability and security.
• Standard tap fitment and standard water butt snap action fitting.
• 65 mm runners to the base for stable stacking ability and fork lift truck transportation.
• Optional Internal calmed inlet for low sediment disturbance.
• Optional Internal overflow siphon for the removal of fine particulates.
• Integral pump housing for stability when attached to a hose connection.
• Internal and external 1” pump connection – where applicable
